This release coincided with iOS 17.7, a security-focused update for users hesitant to upgrade immediately. iOS 18 addresses more vulnerabilities compared to iOS 17.7, including critical issues affecting WebKit and the iPhone’s Kernel.
iOS 18 resolves significant flaws such as two Kernel vulnerabilities (CVE-2024-44165 and CVE-2024-44191) that could enable unauthorized Bluetooth access by apps. Additionally, a Sandbox flaw (CVE-2024-40863) was fixed to prevent app data leaks. Another crucial fix is for a WebKit bug (CVE-2024-40857) that could lead to universal cross-site scripting through malicious web content. Apple also addressed a WebKit issue (CVE-2024-44187) that could allow data exfiltration from a malicious website.
Furthermore, iOS 18 patched a Core Bluetooth flaw (CVE-2024-44124) that was also addressed in iOS 17.7. This vulnerability could have allowed a malicious Bluetooth device to bypass the pairing process, posing a security risk to users. Apple’s continuous efforts to enhance security and address vulnerabilities demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding user data and privacy on iOS devices.
